Syllabus Description (from Canvas):
In this class, we will explore the work of various healthcare workers, including but not limited to home healthcare aides, custodial and environmental services workers, medical scribes, family and patients. We shall explore the division of labor in health care, and how particular social groups come to occupy often vulnerable positions within these arrangements. We shall consider how different forms of knowledge and skills are gained (through experience and/or formal education), how they are differentially recognized and valued, and how they may become sources of personal identity. Assignments will include in-class free writes, online quizzes, contributions to class work, two short creative writing papers, and one group poster project.
