The Molecular Anthropology Laboratory specializes in the analysis of genetic variation to better understand how evolutionary forces and environmental variation influence human biology, health, and behavior. The lab is located in the 2018 built Life Sciences Building and includes a BSL-2 pre-PCR room, and a HEPA filtered and positively pressurized clean room suite to minimize contamination and allow precise characterization of low copy numbers or degraded samples. These facilities are available for student training and research. Ongoing research underway in the laboratory spans topics including: telomere biology and aging, COVID-19 virus detection, genetic influences of neurotransmitter genes on learning and cultural evolutionary processes, microchimerism detection, and immune function.
