Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I know if I have applied to graduate? Check you MyUW for your graduation date. If no date is listed, then you did not apply. The deadline to apply for graduation is the third week of the quarter in which you intend to graduate.
- If I attend the Anthropology Department's Graduation Celebration or the UW Commencement, have I graduated? No. These events are ceremonial and have nothing to do with your degree being awarded. Your degree will be awarded once all of your degree requirements have been met. Review the information you were sent from the UW Academic Records & Graduations Office sent you when you applied to graduate. Once you have completed all your degree requirements, verify the you received your degree by checking your unofficial transcript through MyUW.
- Will I get a diploma during the event? No, but you will receive a commemorative certificate during the event. Official graduate diplomas are mailed to students once they have graduated officially (see next question). The diplomas are mailed approximately 3-4 months after the degree has been awarded.
- How do I ensure my name is pronounced correctly? We will verify the pronunciation of your name when you RSVP for the event.
- Can I sit next to my friends during the ceremony? Yes! We are not seating students alphabetically. Stand with your friends during line up, you will walk into the auditorium together, and be seated next to each other.
Please contact anthinfo@uw.edu with questions.
