Behavioral and biological dynamics of HIV transmission

Goodreau, Steven M. Behavioral and Biological Dynamics of HIV Transmission. N.p., n.d. Web.

Dr. Goodreau is part of a multi-disciplinary research team that uses social network analysis and epidemic modeling to understand the causes of HIV disparities among populations around the world, and to predict the impact of different interventions in different communities.  One piece of this work involves developing new statistical and computational tools to research the dynamics of social networks, which Dr. Goodreau contributes to as part of the statnet development team.  Another piece involves studying the specific behavioral and biological dynamics of HIV transmission within different communities. The research networks that Dr. Goodreau participates in collect behavioral (both qualitative and quantitative), demographic, and biomarker data, all combined into his epidemic modeling tools. Most of Dr. Goodreau’s work is among communities of men who have sex with men (MSM), who live in very different cultural and legal climates around the world, and are at varied levels of risk for HIV.  His past, present, and near-future work focuses on MSM in the US, Peru, India and Kenya.
