This course examines the role of anthropology in supporting community-based health initiatives through engaged research and collaborative partnerships. Students will explore how anthropological methods and theories can be applied to recognize and build upon existing community strengths, promote collective well-being, and support capacity-building efforts that honor diverse ways of knowing and being. Emphasizing relationship-building with community-based organizations, the course fosters ethical, reciprocal partnerships that center the priorities and expertise of local communities. Students will work on projects that apply their learning beyond the University, contributing to initiatives that promote culturally responsive and justice-oriented health solutions. A service-learning component provides hands-on experience in community-engaged health advocacy and applied research.
