Biography

B.A., Medical Anthropology and Global Health, University of Washington, 2016

Shamelle graduated summa cum laude from the University of Washington, where she received a B.A. in Anthropology: Medical Anthropology and Global Health. As a Mary Gates scholar, she completed a departmental honors project examining the reproductive health of migrant women from the English-speaking Caribbean. After working for a health economics project at the University of Washington Department of Global Health for one year, she enrolled at the University of Washington School of Law. She is currently completing a joint JD/MPH program through the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she is a Sommer Scholar. In addition to pursuing a concentration in epidemiology and biostatistics, Shamelle works as a policy assistant for the Centro SOL Migrant Health Policy Group and is completing a practicum with the Maryland Department of Health, Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities. After completing her studies, she plans to become a migrant health justice attorney. In that role, she will provide representation to migrants with health care needs while also advocating for policy changes that will improve migrant access to health care.
