Biography
Ph.D., Anthropology, Bryn Mawr College, 1980
M.A., Anthropology, Bryn Mawr College, 1974
B.A., Anthropology, University of Wisconsin (Madison), 1970
My research interests have included the anthropology of place, colonial and postcolonial politics, nuclear testing, tourism and travel. Geographically I have focused on Oceania, where I’ve done fieldwork in both Papua New Guinea (for three years in the 70s and 80s) and French Polynesia (for 18 months from 1993-2014). I retired in 2015 and currently live in Philadelphia, where I am involved in food justice research and activism, helping to get affordable healthy food in low-income neighborhoods.
