Biography

Tom Minichillo is King County Road Services Division’s Cultural Resources Coordinator and Archaeologist. Tom earned a PhD in 2005 in Anthropology with a concentration in Archaeology from the University of Washington. His dissertation research focused on stone tool technology in southern Africa at the time of the emergence of modern humans between 200,000 and 50,000 years ago. His research on this topic has been published in the journal Nature and the Journal of Human Evolution. He is an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the UW Anthropology Department.

In 2006 Tom began his current position. Through projects and grants he has also been able to work collaboratively with tribal governments and the Burke Museum. Three UW graduate students have gotten internships under Tom’s supervision and have worked on archaeological projects with public education components. The RSD cultural resources program has won National and Local awards for the program and individual projects under his guidance.
